Fleurieu Summer by Benjamin Saunders
Features
ARTIST NOTES: Childhood holidays at Port Willunga were always filled with adventure! Exploring the caves, jetty ruins and stunning beach was amazing enough, but the idea of the Star of Greece being shipwrecked just offshore added to the sense of wonder.
This piece captures the warmth of the summer sun as it lights the towering cliffs that surround the golden beach and clear, blue waters of this magical place.

ARTIST BIO | Ben Saunders is a South Australian artist whose impressionistic and semi-abstract work reflects his love of his environment. Energetic and bold, his work is infused with a sense of place and time and often explores the spaces that lie somewhere between reality and the imagination.
The unique places, plants, colours and textures of the Adelaide Hills and South Australian coastline feature strongly in his paintings. Childhood experiences and memories are explored and reinterpreted as well as reflections and observations of the seasons and natural rhythms of life.
More recently he has been challenging his notion of landscapes with more of his work now combining elements of abstraction and interpretation rather that a literal presentation of the subject. Many of his works depict 'found-scapes' or imagined vistas.
âOften working with mixed media, Ben loves to combine acrylic, ink, charcoal, graphite, oils and oil sticks in his work which is generally on stretched canvas or solid cradled boards.
Prior to becoming a full-time artist, Ben had a career in Graphic Design and creative marketing in the corporate sector. |
